The bondage imagery that characterized Wonder Woman in the 1940s under Marston's editorial direction was greatly reduced in the 1950s, but there was still the occastional bondage surprise, like this image from August 1954 that's replete with sexual bondage symbolism. Wonder Woman is secured to a bouy ("boy") while an incredibly phallic red torpedo heads for Wonder Woman's sweet spot. This was very much the exception to the rule of non-bondage imagery, especially no imaginative bondage imagery. What was more usual is shown on the next page ... and it's mildly disturbing in certain respects.
